We know that one of the best parts about owning a water dispenser is having access to cold and hot water within seconds. It saves us so much time from boiling water or from transferring water into a jug and cooling them inside the fridge. But does this mean we ditch the electric kettle, completely?

When it comes to making coffee, tea, and other hot beverages, it’s much more convenient to just plug in the electric kettle and pour boiling water over the tea bags or coffee pod. One disadvantage of using a dispenser is its inconsistent temperature control. Water will be served at set temperatures but they are rarely what you want unless you choose a model specifically designed for serving 100 degree Celsius drinks such as Japanese-style dispensers. While this is an option, this can be pretty expensive for regular home use, too.

Now, let’s weigh in on which appliance you need most based on your hot water requirement.

Water Dispenser

The water dispenser’s main purpose is to save time and money when it comes to taking a hot bath or shower. It makes the most sense if you have limited storage space in the kitchen, too. With a water dispenser, you don’t need to store large volumes of water as only needed amounts will be dispensed at once.

Another benefit of having this appliance is that even when you have a cleaner in your house, some stains are stubborn enough that they won’t go away no matter what detergent you use. Hot water from the dispenser can clean these stain areas by letting them soak for a while before wiping them out with cloths.

You get access to hot water round the clock and within a matter of seconds. This is perfect for those who use hot water to make instant mix beverages, including instant coffee and oats. This type of drink does really require boiling water or a specific temperature to taste well. Basically, it suits those living a busy lifestyle, and it’s no surprise how so many of us have learned to rely on the heating system of the water dispensers in our offices.

There is also no need to worry about re-heating the water in case you forgot to get it on time because the water dispenser can both store and reheat the water for you.

Electric Kettle

If you are choosing between electric kettles and water dispensers because of the time factor, then this is where the kettle has an upper hand. No more waiting around for several seconds or minutes just to have a cup of hot water for your coffee or tea!  Electric kettles can heat up the water in a matter of minutes unlike most models of water dispensers which take at least five to six minutes. Some models may even take longer depending on how fast they heat up the cold water needed to maintain consistent temperatures within each compartment.

You also get better temperature control with an electric kettle, which is more necessary for manual brewing of coffee or tea. With an electric kettle, you can have a full one liter of boiling water in one go. This is something that you can hardly achieve with a water dispenser. Every coffee lover will definitely have their own electric kettle, despite already having a water dispenser.

The Verdict:

Having a water dispenser at home is definitely the more convenient option but it makes so much more sense if you combine both. For example, having an electric kettle in your office where you will often need hot water for coffee or tea and a water dispenser at home for other purposes. Having the best of both worlds would be the most practical choice for those who want to have control over their drinking water temperature while saving time in doing so, too.

Besides, an electric kettle does not take too much space in the kitchen, plus there are also a lot of budget-friendly yet great quality brands that you can choose from. It will certainly make a great addition in your own coffee or tea corner at home.
